EUSR Flange Jointing Installation Training

This course provides the safety critical instruction that enables operators to install networks with confidence. In accordance with recognised best practice the training allows the learner to familiarise themselves with the basics of Flange Jointing installations. Both theoretical and practical assessments are carried out in order to identify the risks and minimise the hazards of working with Flange Joints within the Water, Gas and Power sectors. Applications are applicable to both traditional trench work and operations above ground.

The one day course can accommodate up to 8 delegates per day.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the dangers, identify the hazards and minimise the risks (through control measures) associated with flange jointing installations and the ancillary equipment/items required to safely and successfully complete flange jointing installations
  • Define a flange mechanical connection and what it is designed to achieve
  • Recognise flange face damage that often prevents the formation of a leak free seal
  • Identify incorrect installation methods that historically result in unequal loading & premature failure
  • Analyse the problems caused by the overtightening of bolts, which reduce hydraulic performance and natural movement of pipework in operation
  • Establish the fact that a failure to lubricate bolts can result in incorrect torque loading
  • Select the correct flange size for the task at hand and understand the pitfalls of incorrect gasket selection, such as environmental stress and premature failure
  • Understand how the correct gasket selection influences the lifetime performance of the completed flange connection
  • Interpret and recognise the importance of the correct selection of all equipment and ancillary items involved in flange joining operations, such as torque wrenches, spanners, bolts and lubricants.
  • Execute pre and post usage safety checks
  • Determine best practice methodologies for preparing and assembling multi-material flanges
  • Expose how poor practice often severely impacts the overall jointing process
  • Discuss in detail correct installation method(s) and what the look like out in the field
  • Practical flange jointing testing demonstration to illustrate flange connection quality to create a multi-material assembly

Who will benefit?

Managers, supervisors, safety professionals and/or operatives who are required to oversee or carry flange jointing installations. If you physically carry out flange jointing and haven't had any formal training, this course is essential to minimise risk to yourself and those around you.
