Groundforce Showcases BIM Capability at BIM Show Live

15 Apr

The event, which takes place on 23-24 April at Manchester Central, will showcase the latest developments in BIM, the rapidly-developing technique of integrated 3D project modelling.

Architects, engineers and contractors are now working to ensure BIM Level 2 capability by 2016, the date by which the government has declared that all large-scale public sector projects must take place in a BIM environment.

Groundforce has spent over a year quietly investigating and establishing its BIM capability and has developed a library of CAD component designs that you can download from the new, dedicated Design Hub website, which is part of the existing technical library atwww.gftech.co.uk. This BIM resource centre launched on the 23rd of April and houses many 2D, 3D Autodesk files as well as Revit Families and a collection of Software and Documents chosen by their specialist engineers.

The company will be using BIM Show Live to display its BIM capabilities and to engage with end users of BIM technologies said Daniel Cuthbert, Groundforce Engineer and BIM Co-ordinator.

“We will be running demonstrations of our Design Hub and displaying CAD models in various formats that showcase our component libraries as well as showing past and current projects including the Glasgow School of Arts” he said.

The importance of BIM in future projects is beyond doubt with many schemes already using BIM workflows and seeing significant benefits. The HS2 rail scheme – which will not start before 2017 at the earliest – already has a large BIM model, added Mr Cuthbert.

He continued: “There are now many annual events but the BIM Show Live is one of the few large events that seem to be aimed at end users as opposed to just decision makers. We will be running tutorials and demonstrations for our visitors., and looking for feedback regarding our strategy and our new online Design Hub”.

Groundforce’s Level 2-compliant components are now available to download via the new Design Hub website at www.gftech.co.uk/DesignHub.

Groundforce Technical Director, Tony Gould, commented: “The BIM Show Live is viewed by many as a chance for the end users of BIM technology to see and discuss the latest development with the focus being more in skills rather than purchasing.”

“For those interested in BIM technologies, it’s the event of the year”.
